OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The objectives of WHO's emergency programme are to design and implement programmes thatprepare the health sector to deal with emergencies that improve health during and after crises.Within the emergency programme, the objectives of WHO's emergency response team are to support Member States by: (1) Promptly assessing health needs of populations affected by crisis,identifying priority causes of ill-health and death; preparing damage estimates and emergency response and rehabilitation plans; providing prompt, credible health information and ensuring the continuity of essential health services;(2) Coordinating and monitoring emergency health reliefefforts under the aegis of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Health Cluster, of which WHO is the lead agency;(3) Ensuring that critical gaps in the health response are rapidly identified and filled;(4) Revitalizing and building the capacity of national health systems to deal with preparedness, mitigation and response.

    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

    1. Provide technical support for the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) on planning,implementation, monitoring and evaluation of national malaria control and elimination strategiesand interventions; 2. Support the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) indeveloping/updating/translating the training manuals and/or standard operation guidelines as well as supporting and liaising for the participation of nationals in WHO training and meetings;3. Provide technical support to Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP) and National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and other related departments/programs to improve malaria information system and to integrate malaria surveillance within the national integrated surveillance;4. Provide technical support to Ministry of Public Health (MoPHP) and Population and National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and other related departments/programs to establish the Integrated Community Case Management (ICCM) and promotes for community involvement in malaria control and elimination;5. Coordinate and foster partnerships with all relevant sectors and partners to ensure proper implementation of malaria control activities in the country and across the borders;6. Facilitate resource mobilization activities and develop proposals for fund raising; 7. Ensure regular communication and liaison between MoPHP/NMCP, Partners, and WHO;8. Coordinate with EMRO/MCE for providing needed technical support to national malaria control programme when it is needed.

Qualifications & Experience المؤهلات والخبرات

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    Essential: University degree in medicine
    Desirable: Post graduate degree in epidemiology, Public Health, Tropical diseases/Medicines or related field. Training in malaria control.

    Experience

    Essential: At least 2 years of experience in malaria control and prevention programs involving planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating of malaria interventions.
    Desirable: Knowledge and experience in malaria control strategies at national and regional level. Experience in control of other communicable diseases is an asset.

    Skills

    1) Excellent knowledge of malaria epidemiology and control, knowledge and skills in other tropical diseases;2) Expertise in provision of technical advisory services in program related areas and the health systems;3) Sound Knowledge of project design, planning, monitoring and evaluation;4) Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective; working relationships, within and outside the organization;5) Good presentation and negotiation skills.

    REMUNERATION

    Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 41,349 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
